HISTORY OF THE CENTRE
Nanyuki Vocational Training Centre is located in Majengo area, Thingithu ward in Laikipia East Subcounty.
1965: The centre was started as a self-help technical training institution by the local community with the help of the defunct Nanyuki Municipal Council
1966: The institution was named Nanyuki Village Polytechnic through the initiative of the National Council of Churches of Kenya. The plan then-as it’s today- was to equip young people with skills relevant for self and formal employment.
1972: The polytechnic started receiving support from Government in form of staff salary grants, provision of Tools and equipment and supervision of training programs.
1985: The institutions were placed under the then Ministry of Labour and Human Resource Development and renamed Youth Polytechnics.
1991: The youth polytechnics were placed under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and then later moved to the ministry of Technical Training and Applied Technology.
2005: The Youth Polytechnics were then placed under the newly created Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
However, with the promulgation of the new constitution 2010, all the Village and Youth Polytechnics were devolved to county governments. Nanyuki Youth Polytechnic was thereafter renamed Nanyuki Vocational Training Centre in accordance with the TVETA ACT (2013)
